AUGUST SH1FT STAR: AJ

Meet Andrea (or AJ to her friends). She’s our August SH1FT STAR and features in our new release workout video for SH1FT 32: LOW 1MPACT. 

 Based in the Washington DC Metro Area, AJ is the CEO of an IT Management Consulting Firm in addition to running Plowright Fitness (a woman of many talents!). Andrea also runs her live and virtual bootcamps with corporate groups, bringing fitness for life to office workers around DC!

 

WHY WE LOVE ANDREA: 

We love how committed AJ is to the fitness of her community, and how she serves such a wide range of ages and abilities in her classes (and her infectious enthusiasm!). She was the obvious choice to introduce our August workout - SH1FT 32: LOW 1MPACT which we specifically designed as a beginner friendly workout that’s accessible for everyone!

1.Tell us about yourself: 

I was born in the USA in Fayetteville, NC home of the 82nd Airborne and was a military brat (Dad was a bad azz Special Forces dude)! After college I moved to the Washington DC Metro Area and have lived here for over 20 years. I'm married to an awesome fellow from Jamaica West Indies and we have two precious doggies named Charlie and Daisy. I'm a big social butterfly and love all things fitness, outdoor adventures, travel, live entertainment and of course the geeky stuff all things business, IT and cyber security related.

 

2. Where/how do you teach?

I run a live and virtual Bootcamp in a local community in Aldie, VA (DC suburbs) and I supply fitness services to corporate customers as well. I teach SH1FT and L1FT with my corporate customers.

 

3. What’s your favourite SH1FT workout?

My favorites "so far" are all of the Low/No Impact routines, COREDIO and HIIT MOBILITY (anything with a mobility focus has to be my absolute favorite).

 

4. What's your favourite thing about SH1FT?

I absolutely love the intelligence and authentic expert knowledge of safe, effective movements that go into the SH1FT routines. I also love the down to earth, relatable and interpersonal interaction I'm able to have with Will and other Squad members and of course the international diversity is incredible!! The flexibility of our class delivery capabilities (virtual, in person, ability to record and share routines with customers) is incomparable and GREATLY appreciated!!

 

5. What does 'fitness for life' mean to you?

For me it means genuinely experiencing and influencing others to see fitness as a REAL tool to help sustain, enhance and support health (mental and physical) and overall well being by making it a "sustainable lifestyle" vs a "momentary fad".

 

6. How has SH1FT improved your life and teaching?

It's improved/enhanced my personal life as well as my business portfolio by providing me with tools that add variations of fitness routines which allows me to customize for myself and my customers based on our physical needs. I can't rave enough about the brilliance of the mobility routines...these are gems that I'd like to see more of. Because I teach people who are extreme fitness fans and who range in ages of 30s-70s, having routines that allow us to focus on proper recovery techniques, stretching, etc while still experiencing a great burn and internal satisfaction allows me to deliver well balanced solutions to support fitness longevity, safety, and the "fit for life" belief!!
