NOVEMBER SH1FT STAR: John
Meet this month's SH1FT STAR, John Hartman, from Northern Ohio! John owns and teaches at the Hartman Fitness Studio with his wife. He currently teaches hybrid classes and is an active part of the SH1FT community! In this feature, John talks about his love for SH1FT HIIT Mob, his plans for the studio in light of COVID-19 and more!
WHY WE LOVE JOHN
John first started with SH1FT as a convert after Beachbody Live closed and is an active part of the SH1FT community as both an instructor and business owner. He is currently certified in all four SH1FT formats, and teaches them in hybrid classes, which makes him an inspiration and example of what can be done in the digital fitness space!
Without futher ado, meet John:
1. Tell us about yourself:
I live in a small town in Northern Ohio with my wife, Jennifer, and twin sons, Logan & Nolan. We also have two dogs Maximus (English Bulldog) and Dallas (American Bulldog). Both are rescues!
I’ve spent most of my life serving others. I worked as a police officer in my home town for just over 19 years, before retiring from law enforcement. Now I work as security for a local hospital, and also own a group fitness studio with my wife and enjoy teaching fitness classes. So the service to my community continues on, just in a different role.
I love spending time with my family. My boys just became teenagers and are active in several school sports and activities - I love watching them play! We are big Disney fans and have been on 4 Disney Cruises. Our 5th was scheduled for October 2020, but was cancelled due to COVID. We have our sights set on sailing again in 2022!
Oh... And my guilty pleasure is cheesy Sci-Fi movies! Can someone say... Sharknado! Lol
2. Where/how do you teach?
I currently teach at the studio my wife and I own called Hartman Fitness Studio. We’ve been lucky enough to be able to open back up, but with limits and guidelines to follow. So we are loving the new hybrid way of teaching to both a live in studio class, along with a livestream class via Zoom! We also have plans to bring a Video On Demand service to our clients who are not able to make it to classes.
3. What’s your favourite SH1FT workout?
The generic answer is to say all of them, but I’ve been pretty vocal with the SH1FT community saying how much I love SH1FT HIIT Mob. I just love how functional, yet non traditional, the moves are. My favorite moves from the workout are the Rollback StandUp, Rolling Burpees, and the move that I hate that I love.... Push Up Shoulder Over! Some class favorites have been Pyramid Scheme and L1FT 10.
4. What's your favourite thing about SH1FT?
The workouts are amazing, but hands down my favorite thing about SH1FT is the community! I’ve made friends and connections all over the world because of SH1FT. The positivity, love, & willingness to help each other is contagious!
5. What does 'fitness for life' mean to you?
Fitness for life to me means that you are doing things that will prolong your quality of life. Things that will make you more mobile, stable, and continue remain active as you grow older.
6. How has SH1FT improved your life and teaching?
SH1FT has given me the tools to survive as a fitness instructor/business owner in the COVID Era! I’ve learned so much from the SH1FT team and from my fellow SH1FT instructors! Teaching SH1FT is always something new! I love being able to make up my one playlist or theme to go along with the workouts. It helps make each workout unique!
