Meet this month's SH1FT STAR, Rochelle Barnes from Waterbury, CT. Rochelle is a family-focused fitness instructor and owner of Rorunnner Fitness, LLC. She is a retired Correctional Officer who always dreamed of starting her own fitness business — and then did it!

WHY WE LOVE ROCHELLE:

Rochelle is a SH1FT Alumni Instructor and we LOVE her passion and ambition to to inspire as many people as she can through movement!

Without further ado, meet Rochelle:

1. Tell us about yourself:

My name is Rochelle Barnes. I'm a Mother, Grandmother and am very family orientated. Thanks to my Father, I have always been active in dance, sports and fitness. I'm a retired Correctional Officer that decided to pursue my dream of owning a fitness business. I'm certified in more than 15 formats and I'm proud to be a SH1FT Alumni Instructor. I'm a fitness "fanatic" that aspires to inspire as many people as I can. It's what I call a MOVEMENT!!

2. Where/how do you teach?

I own RoRunner Fitness LLC in Waterbury, CT, USA, based live out of Heart and Sole Dance studio. I offer virtual classes and teach classes at our local YMCA and Steel Beach Gym on a part time basis.

3. What’s your favourite SH1FT workout?

Geesh...I have so many but my newest favorite L1FT is the new January release, CHALLENGE. Who doesn't love a challenge? Right?

And SH1FT HARD GAINS..as the saying goes, “Go hard or go home!”

4. What's your favourite thing about SH1FT?

For starters, the amazing staff and SQUAD support, the multiple formats, the science behind the variety of workouts, the themed releases…but my favorite is the simple set-up that allows progression/regression in a way that everyone in your classes WIN in their own way! That's very important to me.

5. What does 'fitness for life' mean to you?

I keep it simple: set small, realistic, attainable, sustainable goals. Smash them and then repeat! It's YOU vs YOU! My personal motto for a fit life: healthy, happy & strong! It's a lifestyle.

6. How has SH1FT improved your life and teaching?

Let's face it, 2020 has proven to be a very challenging year for small businesses, but becoming a SH1FT SQUAD Instructor has allowed me to continue to do what I love and work hard for. It has also helped me challenge my current members and welcome new ones to my fitness family…both live & virtually!

7. What does diversity mean to you, and why is it important in fitness?

Fitness or being "fit" does not have only one face, or body type and is not only represented by one gender or race, format or brand...diversity like that is so important...it gives everyone in the WORLD an opportunity to live THEIR best, DIVERSE, healthy, happy & strong life.
